Objective
TO DEFINE THE GEOLOGICAL CONTROLS OF MINERALISATION, WHICH OCCURS BOTH IN OLIGO-MIOCENE VOLCANICS AND IN MIOCENE TRANSGRESSIVE SERIES, IN ORDER TO IMPROVE EXPLORATION CONCEPTS.
THIS INVESTIGATION WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN TWO AREAS OF SARDINIA: THE NORTH-WEST AND THE SAN PIETRO ISLAND. PRELIMINARY WORK IN THE NW HAS ALREADY SHOWN THAT MN ORE OCCURS IN TWO DIFFERENT SETTINGS: 1) AS SHOWINGS (MINOR STOCKWORKS, FAULT ZONES...) IN CALCALKALINE VOLCANIC, 2) RECONCENTRATED, AFTER A PERIOD OF WEATHERING OF THE VOLCANICS, AS THE CEMENT OF A CONGLOMERATE AT THE BASE OF TRANSGRESSIVE MIOCENE LIMESTONES.
ON THE ISLAND OF SAN PIETRO, MN-RICH LAYERS ARE INTERBEDDED WITH TUFFS IGNIMBITES AND JASPERS.
INVESTIGATIONS WILL CHIEFLY CONSIST OF:
- DETAILED MAPPING AT 1/10.000 OF ZONES OF POTENTIAL INTEREST, IN ORDER TO PICK OUT OR CONFIRM THE PROMISING METALLOTECTS;
- WORK ON THE PALEOGEOGRAPHY OF THE VOLCANIC BASEMENT OF THE MIOCENE, TO FIND ZONES OF PREFERRED SECONDARY CONCENTRATION OF MN ORE;
- LITHOGEOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF VOLCANICS AND SEDIMENTS, TO ESTABLISH POSSIBLE LINKS BETWEEN MINERALISATION AND COUNTRY ROCKS (PARTICULARY TUFFS);
- WORK ON THE PETROGRAPHY, MINERALOGY AND CHEMISTRY OF MINERAL OCCURRENCES, ON SAMPLES TAKEN AT VARIOUS STAGES OF THE RESEARCH FROM SURFACE OUTCROPS AS WELL AS FROM BORE-HOLES AND TRENCHES (DRILLING AND TRENCHING OPERATIONS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS CONTRACT;
- GEOPHYSUCAL SURVEYS.
