Objective
- TO STUDY THE INFLUENCE OF GEOLOGY, TERRAIN MORPHOLOGY AND MINERALIZED ZONES ON THE SPECTRAL RESPONSE IN MICROWAVE REGION (DUAL BAND, DUAL POLARIZATION - RADAR)
- TO COMPARE THE APPLICABILITY OF RADAR ON OTHER SENSORS IN MINERAL EXPLORATION
SAR DATA WILL BE MANIPULATED IN OPTICAL AS WELL AS IN DIGITAL FORM AT ITC.
THE SOFWARE PREOGRAMMES USED FOR LANDSAT IMAGERY AND DEVELOPED AT ITC WILL BE ADAPTED FOR THE SAR DATA. EXPERIENCE WITH DIGITAL SAR DATA HANDLING AND ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUES WILL BE OBTAINED AND THE APPLICATION FOR GEOLOGICAL MINERAL EXPLORATION WILL BE TESTED.
THE IMAGE REQUIREMENTS CONCERNING QUALITY, RADAR PARAMETERS AND OPTIMAL FLIGHT CONFIGURATION FOR GEOLOGICAL SURVEYING WILL BE DETERMINED.
THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES CAN BE LISTED:
1. THE STUDY OF INFLUENCE OF RADAR LOOK DIRECTION, INCIDENCE ANGLE, WAVE-LEGTH POLARIZATION ON RADAR REFLECTANCE CHARACTERISTICS FOR DIFFERENT GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS AND MINERALIZED ZONES.
2. DIGITAL MANIPULATION OF MULTIBAND, DUAL POLARIZATION SAR DATA AND ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUES. COMPARISON OF DIGITAL PROCESSED WITH OPTICAL PROCESSED SAR DATA AND ITS USEFULNESS FOR GEOLOGICAL SURVEYS.
3. STUDY OF DEPTH PENETRATION OF MICROWAVES, OF DUAL BAND AND DUAL POLARIZATION IN DRY-SAND AREA (DEPENDENT ON WEATHER CONDITIONS).
4. LINEAMENT ANALYSIS ON BASIS OF SAR IMAGERY COMPARED TO COLOR IR IMAGERY AND LANDSAT INTERPRETATION. RELATION BETWEEN MINERALIZATION AND LINEAMENTS.
5. INFLUENCE OF PYRITE BODIES AND THEIR OXIDATION ZONES ON THE RADAR RETURN SIGNAL.
6. COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM DIFFERENT REMOTE SENSING SYSTEMS. POSSIBILITY OF SYNERGISM LANDSAT-ASAR.
