Objective
THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNIQUES AND PROCESS MODELS TO ASSIST IN PLANT DESIGN PROVIDING GRADE/RECOVERY RELATIONSHIPS, OPTIMUM SEPARATION ROUTES AND PROCESSING EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
THIS IS A CO-OPERATIVE PROJECT BETWEEN
- WARREN SPRING LABORATORY (WSL), STEVENAGE, HERTS, UK
- CAMBORNE SCHOOL OF MINES (CSM), POOL, REDRUTH, CORWALL, UK
- CARNON CONSOLIDATED TIN MINES LTD (CCTML), WHEAL JANE, BALDHU, TRURO, CORNWALL
- SOUTH CROFTHY LTD (SCL), POOL, REDRUTH, CORNWALL, UK
WSL ACTS AS THE PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR AND EACH PARTY IMPLEMENTS A SECTION.
1. PROJECT SCOPE
ORE SAMPLES CAN BE SEPARATED READILY AT LABORATORY SCALE INTO PARTICLE SIZE RANGES AND EACH SIZE RANGE CAN BE FURTHER SEPARATED INTO SPECIFIC GRAVITY CATEGORIES. THE INFORMATION WILL BE USED AS THE BASIS FOR THE PROCESS PRODICTION TECHNIQUES AND MODELS. THE VARIABLES TO BE EXPLORED WILL BE LIMITED TO EQUIPMENT LOADING, PARTICLES SIZE RANGE/SPECIFIC GRAVITY CATEGORY SPECTRA AND GRADE/RECOVERY RELATIONSHIPS.FOR THE DENSE MEDIUM WORK WILL BE IMPLEMENTED ON CORNISH TIN ORES. THE SEPARATION MACHINE TYPES WILL BE LIMITED INITIALLY TO DENSE MEDIA SEPARATORS, HYDRAULIC CLASSIFIERS, SHAKING TABLES, SPIRAL CONCENTRATION, JIGS AND SLIMES SEPARATORS.
2. PROJECT STRUCTURE
WAL AND CSM BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RESEARCH ELEMENT OF THE PROJECT COVERING THE ANALYSIS OF SEPARATOR EQUIPMENT FEEDS AND PRODUCTS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE OPERATING MODELS WHILE THE MINING COMPANIES WILL PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE PLANTS.
THE EXISTING MODELLING STRUCTURE WILL BE MODIFIED, AS NECESSARY, TO CATER FOR THE PARTICULAR REQUIREMENT OF THE GRAVITY CONCENTRATION MACHINES LISTED ABOVE. THE PROCESS MODELS PROVIDE PROBABILITIES OF APPEARANCE AT THE MACHINE OUTPUT IN TERMS OF PARTICLE SIZE AND SPECIFIC GRAVITY CATEGORIES.
GRADE/RECOVERY DATA WILL BE PROVIDED BY ASSAYING THE PARTICLE CATEGORIES FOR THE MINERAL OF INTEREST, AND AFTER PREDICTION, THE APPEARANCE OF VALUES IN THE PRODUCT STREAMS WILL BE CALCULATED FROM THE PARTICLE ASSAYS.
THE UNIT MODELS DEVELOPED FOR THE GRAVITY CONCENTRATION MACHINES WILL BE LINKED TOGETHER INTO A PROCESS FLOWSHEET MODELLING SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM WILL ENABLE THE EFFECT OF RECYCLE LOOPS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND CARACTERISED.
THE INDIVIDUAL MACHINE MODELS AND THE FLOWSHEET PREDICTION SYSTEM WILL BE VERIFIED IN CONJUNCTION WITH PROCESS DATA AND ASSOCIATED LABORATORY-SCALE DATA OBTAINED FROM OTHER SIMILAR PROCESSES AND ORE TYPES.
