Objective
THE DEVELOPMENT AND VERIFICATION OF A SIMULATION PACKAGE FOR USE A ON SMALL COMPUTER SYSTEMS IN A USER FRIENDLY MODE TO ASSIST IN PLANT DESING PROBLEMS.
MANY OF THE MECHANISMS PRESENT IN THE SEPARATION PROCESSES AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO MATERIAL PROPERTIES ARE NOT SUFFICIENTLY WELL UNDRESTOOD.
MINEAL PROCESSING PLANTS ARE DESIGNED USING THE AVAILABLE LABORATORY SCALE DATA IN CONJUNCTION WITH CORRELATION FACTORS OBTAINED FROM SIMILAR PROCESSING PLANTS AND USER JUDGEMENT. THE EXTENSIVE USE OF MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF PRODUCTION-SCALE PLANT PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN ADVOCATED FOR SOME TIME TO OVERCOME LIMITATIONS OF DATA TRANSFERS.MANY TECHNIQUES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AND PUBLISHED; UNFORTUNATELY, HOWEVER, THE MAJORITY ARE VERY COMPLEX, REQUIRE IMPUT PARAMETERS WHICH CANNOT BE READILY ESTIMATED, NEGLECT SIGNIFICANT STEPS IN THE OVERALL PROCESS AND DO NOT PROVIDE ANSWERS OF DIRECT USE AT THE PROCESS LEVEL.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE SIMULATION PACKAGE
THECKAGE CONSISTS OF AN INTEGRATED SUITE OF PROVEN PROGRAMS, KNOWN TO BE OF DIRECT USE IN SOLVING EVERYDAY PROBLEMS. IT ALLOWS THE USER TO SIMULATE PLANT DEFINED BYPROCESS FLOWSHEETS WITH MANY STAGES AND RECYCLE LOOPS. A LIST OF SCALE-UP AND CORRELATION FACTORS, WORKED EXAMPLES AND SUPPORT DOCUMENTATION METHODS AND MINERAL ORE TYPES.
COLLECTION AND ADAPTION OF PROGRAMS INTO A CENTRAL PACKAGE
THE FOLLOWING SUITE OF MODELS AND PROGRAMS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE :
1) SUITE OF MATERIAL BALANCE PROGRAMS.
2) COMMINUTION PROCESSES : PRINCIPALLY WET GRINDING SYSTEMS.
3) MODEL OF MULTI-STAGE FLOTATION PROCESSING PLANT.
4) MODELS OF GRAVITY SEPARATORS - SHAKING TABLES, HYDROSIZERS, SPIRAL CONCENTRATORS AND DENSE MEDIA SEPARATORS.
5) GENERAL PURPOSE FLOWSHEET PREDICTION PROGRAMS.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE USER FRIENDLY OPERATING SYSTEM
THE PACKAGE WILL BE LINKED TO A USER FRIENDLY OPERATING SYSTEM DEVELOPD SPECIFICALLY FOR MINERAL PROCESSING TECHNIQUES. THE SYSTEM WILL BE DESIGNED FOR USE ON LARGE "MINI" COMPUTERS (EG. DEC, VAX RANGE\9 IN A MACHINE INDEPENDENT FORMAT TO PROVIDE PORTABILITY OVER A WIDE RANGE OF SMALL COMPUTERS.
SUPPORT DOCUMENTATION WILL BE WRITTEN TO FACILITATE GENERAL USE OF THE PACKAGE.
THE DEVELOPED PACKAGE WILL BE VERIFIED BY COMPARING SIMULATION OF EXISTING PLANT WITH THE OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF THE PLANT.
