EVALUATION OF A V.L.F. BOREHOLE PRODING APPARATUS#FOR THE LOCATION OF DEEP-SEATED ORE BODIES

Objective

EVALUATE A METHOD THAT CAN DETECT THE PRESENCE OF DEEP-SEATED CONDUCTIVE ORE-BODIES WHICH RELIES ON INFORMATION COLLECTED DURING A DOWN-HOLE SURVEY USING A V.L.F. RECEIVER.

EVALUATE A NEWLY DESIGNED BOREHOLE PROBE.

THE PROCEDURE FOR EVALUATING THE NEWLY-DESIGNED BOREHOLE PROBE SHOULD BE:

(A) CALIBRATE THE INSTRUMENT IN BOREHOLE TOTALLY DEVOID OF MINERALISATION.

(B) TEST THE INSTRUMENT IN BOREHOLES IN WHICH THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE REGARDING MINERALISATION.

(C) CARRY OUT TEST (B) IN BOTH DRY AND WATER-FILLED HOLES IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PRESENT COMMERCIAL VERSION OF THE FIBRE-OPTIC LINK.

(D) RE-DESING OR MODIFY PARTS OF THE PROBE IF TESTS (A), (B) OR (C) INDICATE POSSIBLE AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT.

(E) COMPARISON OF RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE PROBE AND FROM ROUTINE LOGGING ACTIVITIES.

CONCURRENTLY:
(F) RELATE THE V.L.F. RADIOWAVE DECAY WITH DEPTH TO THE ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ROCK.

(G) USE THE BRINE TANK TO MATCH FIELD RESULTS TO MODELLING CURVES BY MODELLING THE BOREHOLE MINERALISATION.

(H) RE-DESING OR MODIFY PARTS OF THE MODELLING TANK, IF NECESSARY, IN ORDER TO IMPROVE MATCHING PROBE WITH FIELD DATA OF KNOWN MINERALISATION.

(I) APPLY FIELD DATA TO FILTERING AND INTERPRETATION TECHNIQUES WHICH HITHERTO HAVE ONLY BEEN TESTED ON MODELLING DATA.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
