DETERMINATION OF FACTORS CONTROLLING CHROMITE MINERALISATION WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON AIDS TO MINERAL EXPLORATION

Objective

TO DEFINE GENETICAL CONDITIONS OF CHROMITE CONCENTRATIONS IN OPHIOLITIC COMPLEXES AND TO ESTABLISH THE MAGMATIC, STRUCTURAL AND CHEMICAL CONTROLS OF THIS MINERALISATION, WITH THE AIM OF DETERMINING PROPECTION GUIDES.

THIS IS A JOINT PROJECT INVOLVING ALSO UNIV. HAMBURG (CONTRACT NR. MSM 012) BRGM, ORLEANS (MSM 038) AND THE OPEN UNIVERSITY (MSM 108). IT CONTINUES RESEARCH INITIATED IN OMAN AND AND GREECE BY THE SAME GROUP (PRIMARY RAW MATERIALS PROGRAMME 1978-1981).

FIELD WORK BY ALL FOUR TEAMS WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN NEW CALEDONIA.

RESEARCH IS FOCUSED HERE ON STRUCTURAL AND METAMORPHIC PROCESSES GIVING RISE TO CHROMITE CONCENTRATION. IT WILL CONSIST IN AN INVESTIGATION AND CLASSIFICATION OF STRUCTURES DEVELOPED IN:

(I) THE SEMI-CONSOLIDATED STATE (SLUMPING, FLOW FOLDING, ETC.)

(II) THE POST-CONSOLIDATED PERIOD

A) UNDER HIGH CONFINING PRESSURE (BOUDINAGE OF CHROMITITE PODS, PLASTIC DEFORMATION, DEVELOPMENT OF MINERAL LINEATION AND OTHER RECRYSTALLISATION OF CHROMITE AND ASSOCIATED SILICATES, PULL-APRT TEXTURES)

B) UNDER LOW CONFINING PRESSURE AND LOW TEMPERATURE ASSOCIATED WITH FINAL EMPLACEMENT OR SERPENTINISATION (PULL-APART TEXTURES, NORMAL FAULTING, FOLDING AND SHEARING).

THE FINAL REPORT WILL INCLUDE THE EARLIER RESULTS ON OMAN GREECE.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
