Objective
ADOPTION OF THE RAW MATERIALS QUALITY TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN CERAMIC INDUSTRY.
THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO ASCERTAIN:
- WHICH PROPERTIES OF CLAY RAW MATERIALS DETERMINE THE FIELD OF APPLICATION AND HOW THIS DEPENDS ON THE MINERAL COMPOSITION;
- WHICH PROCESSING METHODS, FOR A GIVEN MINERAL CONTENT, CAN CHANGE THE COMPOSITION OF SUCH A RAW MATERIAL;
- HOW THE PROPERTIES OF RAW MATERIALS CAN BE CHANGED;
- HOW RAW MATERIALS FOR USE IN SPECIAL CERAMIC TECHNOLOGIES.
THE RESEARCH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
- DETERMINATION OF THE COMPOSITION OF THE CRUDE RAW MATERIALS: MINERAL AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION BY MEANS OF X-RAY DIFFRACTION, THERMAL ANALYSIS, IR-SPECTROSCOPY, SEM- AND POL-MICROSCOPY;
- DETERMINATION OF THE GRAIN-SIZE DISTRIBUTION OF THE MINERALS WITHIN THE GRAIN-SIZE DISTRIBUTION OF THE BULK MATERIAL BY MEANS OF ATTERBERG SEDIMENTATION AND X-RAY SEDIGRAPH;
- DETERMINATION OF THE PROPERTIES WHICH ARE RELEVANT FOR SPECIAL APPLICATIONS SUCH AS STRENGTH OF UNFIRED BODIES, VISCOSITY, DENSIFICATION BY THE FORMING PROCESSES, FIRING PROPERTIES AND THE INTERDEPENDENCES OF THE COMPOSITION;
- ENRICHMENT OF DESIRED COMPONENTS AND REMOVAL OF UNDERSIRED COMPONENTS ON THE BASIS OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE RESEARCH MENTIONED ABOVE BY CENTRIFUGING, FLOTATION, SLURRY-PROCESSES, MAGNETIC SEPARATION;
- DETERMINATION OF THE PROPERTIES OF PREPARED MATERIALS WITH METHODS SUCH AS THOSE DESCRIBED FOR THE RAW MATERIALS;
THIS RESEARCH PROJECT IS PART OF A COMMON PROGRAMME THAT HAS BEEN DRAW UP BY SEVERAL WELL-EQUIPPED RESEARCH CENTRES IN THE COMMUNITY TO WORK ON A CERTAIN NUMBER OF RAW MATERIALS.
THE RESEARCH HAS BEEN DISTRIBUTED AS FOLLOWS:
