Objective
THE INDUSTRIAL POTENTIALITIES AND APPLICATIONS OF REVERSE OSMOSIS MEMBRANES AND OF LIQUID SUPPORTED MEMBRANES WILL BE INVESTIGATED IN HYDROMETALLURGICAL PROCESSES FOR RECOVERY OF INTERESTING METALS.
THE POTENTIALITIS OF REVERSE OSMOSIS IN THE TREATMENT OF METAL BEARING SOLUTIONS ARE IN GENERAL LIMITED BY THE LOW CHEMICAL AND THERMAL RESISTANCE OF TRADITIONAL POLYMERIC REVERSE OSMOIS MEMBRANES.
IN PARTICULAR, MOST PART OF THE MEMBRANES DID NOT OPERATE IN BASIC SOLUTIONS, WERE NOT STABLE TO THE OXIDING AGENTS OR TEMPERATURE HIGHER THAN 50C. NEW REVERSE OSMOSIS MEMBRANES WILL BE INVESTIGATED ON PILOT PLANT SCALE IN EXTREME PROCESS CONDITIONS.
LIQUID SUPPORTED MEMBRANES ARE NEW CLASS OF MEMBRANES OF PARTICULAR INTEREST FOR THE TREATMENT OF LIQUID SOLUTIONS CONTAINING VARIOUS METALS.THE COUPLED TRANSPORT PROCESS, WHICH CAN BE REALIZED WITH THESE NEW MEMBRANES, MAY BE SEEN AS NEW WAY OF USING CLASSICAL SOLVENT EXTRACTION.IN THIS PROGRAM COUPLED TRANSPORT WITH THIS CLASS OF MEMBRANES WILL BE INVESTIGATED IN VARIOUS SYSTEMS OF SIGNIFICANT INDUSTRIAL INTEREST, I.E. COPPER CONCENTRATION, COPPER ZINC SEPARATION, NICHEL-COBALT SEPARATION, INDIUM CONCENTRATION ETC. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE DEVOTED TO THE INTERFACIAL FOULING AND TO THE DURABILITY OF THESE MEMBRANES IN LONG TERM OPERATION.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
