Objective
REDUCTION IN THE USE OF SOME METALS IN CONTACT ALLOYS FOR CONNECTOR APPLICATION BY THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUBSTITUTION ALLOYS BASED ON VARIOUS COMPOSITIONS OF NOBLE AND ORDINARY METALS.
NEW TERNARY AU/PG/PD ALLOYS WILL BE DEVELOPED, WITH AU CONTENTS OF LESS THAN 40WT 5, AND WHOSE TARNISH RESISTANCE AND WEAR BEHAVIOUR WILL BE AS GOOD AS THOSE OF THE HOGH AU CONCENTRATION ALLOYS PRESENTLY USED.
IN ADDITION, PD-BASED ALLOYS WILL BE DEVELOPED FOR CONTACTS OPERATING IN LESS SEVERE AMBIENTS. SINCE PD/AG ALLOYS REVERAL A BETTER TARNISH BEHAVIOUR AND WEAR RESISTANCE THAN PURE PD, INVESTIGATION WILL BE CARRIED OUT TO SEE WHETHER SIMILAR FEATURES ARE FOUND FOR PDNI-, PDSN-, PDIN- OR OTHER ALLOYS CONTAINING NON-NOBLE METAL COMPONENTS. TARNISH FORMATION WILL BE INVESTIGATED IN VARIOUS AMBIENTS BY AN ANALYSIS OF THE FILM CHEMISTRY AND FILM THICKNESS AS WELL AS BY THE USE OF CONTACT RESISTIVITY PROBES. WEAR WILL BE INVESTIGATED WITH VARIOUS SPECIALLY DESIGNED TRIMOTERS.
IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT NOT ONLY WILL THE CONSUMPTION OF VARIOUS NOBLE METALS BE REDUCED DUE TO THE SUBSTITUTION OF ONE OR MORE NOBLE METAL COMPONENTS, BUT ALSO DUE TO THE DECREASE IN DENSITY, LEADING TO AN INCREASE OF VOLUME, THAT WILL RESULT FROM THE INCORPORATION OF LESS HEAVY METALS.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
