OPTIMIZATION OF CERAMICS OF THE SIALYON-TYPE - STUDY OF THE CORRELATIONS BETWEEN ELABORATION, MICROSTRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES.

Objetivo

DEVELOPMENT OF AN INDUSTRIAL SIALYON BY OPTIMIZATION OF THE FABRICATION CYCLE.

STUDIES CARRIED OUT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LIMOGES HAVE HIGHLIGHTED THE INFLUENCE OF POST-SINTERING THERMAL TREATMENT ON THE MICROSTRUCTURE OF SIALON AND SIYON MATERIALS PREPARED ON LABORATORY SCALE. THE EXPERIENCE GAINED IN THIS FIELD WILL BE APPLIED TO A PRODUCT OF SIALYON TYPE WHICH HAS ALREADY BEEN TESTED INDUSTRIALLY, WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF IMPROVING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND OBTAINING A MORE RELIABLE AND ECONOMICALLY COMPETITIVE END PRODUCT.

IN THE FIRST PHASE 3 DIFFERENT VALUES OF THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION, PURITY AND GRAIN SIZE OF THE ORIGINAL MATERIAL WILL BE INVESTIGATED FOR THE SINTERING REACTIVITY.

REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLES OF THE FABRICATION PROCESS WILL BE PREPARED, SINTERED AND ESSAYED FOR ITS DEGREE OF DENSIFICATION AND DEFECT DENSITY.

DURING THE SECOND PHASE, CHARACTERIZATION OF THE SINTERED PRODUCTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT. IN PARTICULAR, CHEMICAL ANALYSIS, CHARACTERIZATION OF THE CRYSTALLINE PHASES, OXIDATION RESISTANCE, IN AIR AND IN CO2, POROSITY AND THE INTERGRANULAT PHASE STRUCTURE, WILL BE INVESTIGATED. MECHANICAL PROPERTIES WILL ALSO BE STUDIED.

IN A THIRD PHASE, THE EVOLUTION INDUCED BY POST-SINTERED THERMAL TREATMENTS WILL BE EXAMINED AS WELL AS THE MODIFICATIONS THAT WILL RESULT ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AT HIGH TEMPERATURE AND IN AGGRESSIVE ATMOSPHERES.

IN THE FINAL PHASE A SIALYON-TYPE MATERIAL HAVING OPTIMIZED PROPERTIES WILL BE PROPOSED IN THE LIGHT OF THE PRECEDING PHASES.
