Objective
Since the summer of 1989 the Concerted Action on asthma prevalence and risk factors has been designing and executing a survey to collect information on the variation in asthma prevalence and the known and suspected risk factors for atopy and asthma across Europe, together with information on the treatment and management of asthma.
The specific objectives of the project have been to:
1 Estimate the variation in asthma, asthma-like symptoms and bronchial lability across Europe.
2 Estimate the exposure to known and suspected risk factors for asthma, to measure their association with asthma and to assess to which they explain variations in asthma prevalence across Europe.
3 Estimate variations in treatment for asthma in the European Community.
