The European Renewable Electricity Certificate Trading Project

Objective

1) To ensure that REC market development is coordinated, that information is shared, and that barriers to REC trade between Member States are minimoised;
2) To disseminate widely, knowledge and understanding of REC market development to stakeholders and potential beneficiaries;
3) Based on existing work, and coordinating carefully with existing work, to help key stakeholders in Member States to define the necessary institutional framework, criteria and principles to promote REC trade, nationally and EU-wide;
4) To analyse and disseminate the costs and benefits of using RECs to purchase the environmental benefit of renewable electricity production;
5) Using powerful 'hands-on' simulation and dissemination techniques, to demonstrate to key stakeholders how an EU-wide REC market could work and to help to develop consensus on how national and international trade in RECs should be archived.
