High Wind Energy Penetration in Hybrid Wind-Diesel Systems, and Innovative Approach Using Back-To-Back Power Electronic

Objective

The WINDPLUS project will contribute to the Implementation of up-to-date power electronics in wind-diesel energy systems, it will lead to:
1. enhance renewable energy penetration from 70 up to 85%, thus reduce fossil fuel usage;
2. deliver a cost of energy no more than 35% higher than the current local all-fosil fuel energy costs;
3. reduce the operation and maintenance costs compared to all-fossil fuel installations;
4. enhance the value of stored energy and increase battery life time;
5. enhance energy quality delivery, eliminate coupling perturbations and flicker;
6. optimize the turbine efficiency;
7. enhance the modularity and upgradability, thus have cheaper systems through quantities.

All this, coupled with advanced techniques for energy control like:
1. wind resource prediction;
2. load prediction and management;
3. user remote control, will allow anticipation in energy generation and easy and optimum management of the generated energy.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
