ADVANCED WELLS

Objetivo

The purpose is to demonstrate European technology which is regarded as essential to evaluating, drilling/completing advanced wells of complex 3D geometry. The proposers aim to reduce the economic, safety/technological risks of introducing new technology by working in a joint industry shared-cost project with other key end users/innovative suppliers. Objectives will be reached by drilling sections in onshore test wells and by demonstrating new innovative completion equipment offshore. The drilling activities will provide demonstration of emerging technology in a low risk, safe environment. In addition, the actual field testing and monitoring of new innovative completion equipment will give valuable experience regarding possibilities of new completion techniques. It aims to provide service and supply companies taking part in the demonstrations access to a highly qualified client group whereby the results of successful demonstrations will be an excellent reference for their technology. The valuation of advanced wells of complex geometries will be improved by coupling the most widely used European reservoir simulator to new models for near wellbore flow and in-well flow in order to provide a well design tool set for evaluating and ranking the potential of alternative advanced well systems.
1) First commercially available integrated reservoir/well simulation tools for estimating production potential of complex well systems for the purpose of economic and technical ranking of alternative depletion schemes demonstrated for complex-well depletion schemes for 2 field case studies Hermod, Njord
2) Qualifying hard rock and steerable rotateable drilling equipment, near bit MWD and drillstring dynamics monitoring.
3) Forum-wide client-driven industrial demonstration, dissemination and implementation of all of above.
4) The successful application of the selected newly qualified technologies will contribute to exploitation of new and existing hydrocarbon resources by reducing cost through increased reserves, recoveries and well productivity which will enable extended life and better use of infrastructure and development of fields which are marginal due to size, deepwater or geological complexity.
5) Tests results from drilling a 500 m section with the Baker Hughes Inteq 8 1/2". HTHP steerable, rotateable BHA.
6) Demonstration of new abrasive milling technique for window milling.
7) Demonstration of cuttings transport capacity for environmentally friendly drilling mud in comparison to an optimum drilling fluid.
The improved simulation tools for reservoir evaluation which are to be qualified and demonstrated by application to the contractors'reservoir studies will better account for important effects of long complex 3D producing sections by integrating recently developed hydraulic wellbore and near-wellbore simulators with a widely used reservoir simulator. This will allow better ranking of alternative depletion schemes of complex well systems with similar recovery estimates. The contractors represent a wide-based E&P forum for Advanced Wells dedicated to providing opportunities for testing and qualification of new components and solutions for drilling and completions of complex wells which will enhance and speed up the innovation process. The combined resources of the project participants include several test-well sites. One or more test sites will be chosen for drilling limited horizontal section(s) for demonstrating equipment for hard rock drilling, steerable rotateable drilling, monitoring drillstring dynamics and near bit MWD. One horizontal lateral sidetrack section will also be drilled to facilitate the testing of both horizontal and multilateral completion equipments and designs.
