Objective
Demonstrate the technical and economic viability of an innovative wellhead and christmas tree system design required to meet the following severe service conditions :
- 15,000 psi wellhead shut in pressure.
- 400 deg. F wellhead produced fluid temperature.
- Extreme corrosive produced fluids.
- Maximize completion size.
- 25 year maintainable service life.
- Fire resistant to API 6FA & 6FB.
- Minimize risk of blow out.L%
Tests completed :
- 10 3/4" Adjustable Mandrel Hanger
- 14" Adjustable Mandrel Hanger
- 14" Rough Casing Metal Seal
- 13 5/8"-15K Speedloc Clamp
- 18 3/4"-10K Speedloc Clamp
- 13 5/8" Tubing Hanger Seal
- 10 3/4" Production Casing Hanger Pack-Off.
The project will demonstrate the suitability of existing wellhead features, including any iterative changes for enhanced performance, in meeting the requirements of a high temperature (400 deg. F)/high pressure (15,000 psi) wellhead application.
The primary features identified for such a wellhead are :
The Tubing Hanger (13 5/8" x 4 1/16"-15K)
Wellhead Connectors (13 5/8"-15K, 18 3/4"-15K),
Production Casing Hanger Pack-Off (13 5/8" x 10 3/4"-15K)
Valves (4 1/16"-15K).
Phase 1 - Component Tests
This phase of this project is for the design and manufacture of the various component prototypes and their testing within a test fixture. This phase has been expanded to include performance verification testing at the specified temperature and pressure and also to produce generic type design certifications.
NOTE : The original project consisted of three phases, the first was a "component tests" phase, the second was a "final tests" phase and thirdly a "final design" phase. These three distinct phases have largely been merged into a single phase. The other two phases, that of construction and testing of a complete wellhead and tree system and then any revisions to that system resulting from the test, has now been dropped. This is due to the large expense of building a system with little realistic chance of being able to sell such a system onto a customer. Also, the benefits of system testing over component testing is marginal and thus not necessary. Based on results achieved, we have demonstrated the system/component availability to the end users and are ready to meet their needs.
