MEMBRANE SYSTEM FOR GAS DEHYDRATION

Objetivo

The project aim is the demonstration of suitability of membrane separation processes for commercial use in the natural gas industry and the implementation of industrial separation systems capable of removing water from wet natural gas by means of polymeric membranes.
Dehydratation is currently carried out by means of glycol treatment or activated solid desiccants. These methods require high energy consumption for regeneration and recovery of the decomposed glycol and are a possible source of pollution in case of offshore plants.
Being the project in an testing phase, no results are available
This project applies an innovative technology in the separation of water from wet natural gas by means of polymeric membranes.
The possibility to replace traditional dehydration plants with membrane dehydration plants can assure remarkable benefits, like:
- exploitation of energy resources that presently are not cost effective (offshore plants);
- lower environmental impact due to the minimum ecological risk;
- development of new applications having lower impact on the landscape.
These benefits derive from :
- the reduced weights, dimensions, costs, maintenance and consumption (chemical and electrical) of the membrane separation systems;
- ease of installation and modularity of this system with
- simplified automation and use of telecontrol systems.
A prototype plant and an industrial pilot plant shall be realised to verify the selectivity, permeability and lifetime of selected membrane for a long period in real conditions: the selection of the pilot plant site will part of the project.
