Objective
To develop and validate a "Cable Sawing Cutting System" suitable for small to very large platform decommissioning as well as for subsea structure repair or partial decommissioning.
Organisation of two offshore tests in North Sea area:
1. RSV Seaway Commander: 60" pile mockup cutting
2. HLV Stanilav Yudin: Europipe 40" pipeline cutting.
The tests were performed in diverless mode with the assistance of a working ROV.
First cutting test operation was not successful due to diamond pearls slippage on their steel wire support.
In order to ensure diamond cable operational cutting reliability, an intensive Quality Assurance and Quality Control Program was established by Diamant Boart SA and implemented through all phases of their diamond cable manufacturing organization.
Second cutting test operation was very successful with average cutting time of 2.5 hours for a 40" pipeline (29 mm wall thickness).
This project will allow to conceive, to develop, to fabricate, to test and to validate an underwater cable sawing cutting system to be deployed and operated initially by divers then remotely, in the scope of platform or subsea concrete structure decommissioning.
Such technique will be using a diamond or special cable as sawing device to perform cutting task on very large sandwich material like steel/concrete/etc... This technique was not specifically used in the offshore industry such and more particularly in underwater environment.
Platform removal and concrete structure repair or construction could be carried out without disturbance to the environment.
Significant costs saving and safety improvement could be considered in diverless mode.
