Objective
The demonstration of a complex technology for the production of gas from hard coal seams (coal bed methane). This demonstration will take the benefit of advanced 3D gas reservoir and of the very specific knowledge of coal basins and of their associated petrophysical characteristics.
Complementary expertises of SAARBERG, GDF and DBI are associated in this project which lasts 30 months.
- Simulation of gas and water production
- Selection of stimulation technology
The R&D phase is already completed by exploration and gas test in the drilled CBM well Aspenhubel 1.
Low-permeability hard coal seams shall be exploited from surface drilled CBM wells.
The permeability of the coal seams is increased by fracs to extract the gas with good productivity.
At first, relevant data will be collected in order to run the reservoir models and to determine the design parameters of the subsurface and surface equipment and facilities. One well will be drilled on the most suitable location with a comprehensive logging and well testing. That drilling phase will be followed by a twelve months production period and associated production data will be recorded. The final assessment report will be design through comparisons of numerical 3D model prognosis and the actual production profiles.
