SWIVEL IMPACT ARRESTOR FOR DRILLING

Objetivo

The main part of the project is the field testing of new bit design to compare the performances of conventional and decoupled tools. The new technology will reduce the vibration in the drilling tool and consequently reduce drillstrings and drilling bit failures. The partnership (PAULSTRA, DBS, TOTAL) combines the most efficient expertise available in Europe to successfully achieve the objectives of this project within 24 months.
Manufacturing tools.
- Fatigue tests on the two prototypes have been extended. We did not find any change of the behaviour of the prototypes and we pursued the fatigue test to know the exact test limit of the bearing before proceeding the remaining 12 bearings manufacturing.
This additional test have not affected the program of the project.
A laminated spherical elastomer/metal -swivel will be placed in the drilling assembly between the drill bit and the drilll string. This laminated spherical elastomer/metal- swivel has been already proven in the railway and aerospace industries giving an efficient protection against vibrations.
The drilling assembly will remain exactly the same as usual except for the drill bit.
10 anti vibration systems will be manufactured :
-2 systems will be run on a pilot well for confirmation of the potential reliability of the system.
-8 systems will be field tested.
