SLIMTOOLS PDC [PHASE 1]

Objective

PDC bits do exist for small diameter but new bits with higher performance arc wanted by industry. A range of engineering softwares were developed to provide adequacy in the design of special drilling bits for slim hole application (use of new inset and plates).
These existing softwares contribute to design and manufacture of a set of specific slim hole bits which are validated in this project.
Based on an integrated design approach, a complete new line of bits has been created. This line of bits are performing better than the existing ones in the lab and in the field because of a better drilling efficiency : this line is the best trade off between dynamics, hydraulics and rock mechanics to date.
Additional tests have led to a better understanding of the influence of the different design criteria on the performance.
- Fabrication of PDC bits in 3"3/8 and 4" 3/4 OD.
- Tests on drilling full size test bench to check the behaviour of the bits
in various rocks and conditions. - Demonstration during industrial slim hole wells drilling.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
