Objective
To carry out trials in real conditions of a prototype of 3-4 inch intelligent metal loss pig for corrosion detection in order to validate it definitively and to realize a calibrating stand to assure a better interpretation quality.
This instrument is important for security and environment in the sense that it will permit the prevention of accidents due to severe corrosion.
We now have an instrument which is unique on the market and which has been proven. It is ready for commercialization.
Phase 1 : Design phase
A calibrating stand has been designed with the main defective models on movable spool pieces.
Phase 2 : Construction phase
The designed stand and spool pieces have been manufactured. A special machine tool has been used.
Phase 3 : Assembly phase
The calibrating stand has been installed at SYMINEX and pressure tests have been done.
Phase 4 : Calibrating trials
Before testing the pig in real trials it has been calibrated and the measured modellised defects have been stored in a data base.
Phase 5 : Evaluation on the test loop
The pig have been validated on the test loop and the influence of speed, wall thickness, acquisition frequency, etc, have been studied.
