Objective
The first objective of the project AXES was to carry out a synthesis of the various methods currently available and reported in the literature and to evaluate the socio-economic contributions of fisheries and aquaculture activities to regional development.
Although the report reviews a large number of different methods or instruments, particular emphasis is given to the methods derived from Input-Output (I-O) tables approach and its extension, the Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model. This is because I-O tables have been the prime tools used to carry out the most recent studies in Europe (COWI 1997, MegaPesca 1999) and they appear therefore to be directly relevant to the AM main objective.
