Objective
The proposal aims at establishing closer co-operation in and co-ordination of scientific studies and RTD projects with leading research centers in EU countries and Baltic states in the field of marine science with a special emphasis on sustainable fisheries. It will be realised through a number of measures such as training courses, workshops, visits by senior scientists from the EU to the Centre and vice-versa, post-doctoral studies, etc.
The main innovation of the project lies in broadening the Centre's research strategy from fishery-focused to ecosystem-oriented, including the principles of sustainable development, the cost-benefit approach and environmental protection. The realisation of the proposed package of measures will promote the Centre to the level of other advanced laboratories and will result in providing decision-makers with comprehensive scientific advice for sustainable development.
