Environmental, energy and financial optimisation of freshwater aquaculture systems

Objective

Freshwater and marine aquaculture systems have a large negative impact on the local environment. Seen in the light of the increasing dependency of aquaculture for the worlds fish supply, it is important to continue to improve the efficiency and reduce the negative environmental impact of aquaculture systems.

It is the overall objective of the project to develop an optimal system for feeding, oxygen and flow and environmental control, by combining the newest knowledge on growth models, feeding patterns and behaviour of different fish species and environmental parameter, using the latest monitoring, control and feeding automation technology, including feed waste and fish activity sensors.

It is the goal to: Develop of an economically and environmentally favourable feeding control system focused on Rainbow Trout; To combine knowledge of fish feeding behaviour, with growth and environmental parameters in a new innovative way.
