Utilisation of by products from shrimp peeling, for feed addition to lobster fry, halibut juveniles, organic farmed salmon par and arctic char par and adults

Objectif

The project addresses two problems simultaneously.
1) The need to remove organic material from trade effluent
2 )The requirement for high quality ash-free protein/lipid, within the aquaculture industry.

The risk in recovering the POC is low to medium, but the research must address the need to prove the product as a critical ingredient in fish and crustacean feed products. The research supports the 'grown' and 'Quality of Life' thematic programmes, in that it serves to help the environment and also to assist economic growth in fragile coastal economies. The research consists of 4 interdependent work packages: Start up and production of the POC. The optimum method of recovery of the material from shrimp -fine affluent, will be achieved. The resultant sludge will be dried ready for use in the following work-tasks. Characterisation and analysis of the POC. This workpackage will look at all aspects of the POC which will govern its use as a stable feed ingredient, toxicology, analysis, storage etc.
