Objetivo
In aquaculture production and trade, disease outbreaks are being recognized as a significant constraint affecting the economic development of the sector. For the protection of the consumer's health however, some antibiotics are banned in animal rearing due to the application of European legislation. The reduction of the number of antibiotics permitted by the European legislation results in the absence of -legal treatments for some minor animal species, like marine fish and crustaceans.
The present proposal aims to develop innovative food formulations or water conditioners with bacteriostatic / bacteriocide effects, based on commercially available agents from other sectors (agriculture), biocides and products / extracts derived from micro-algae or other marine (micro-) organisms that can be made legal for aquaculture applications or that can replace currently used aggressive agents like gluteraldehyde.
