Objective
The aim of SAFT is to construct and produce an advanced detection system for monitoring microorganisms, both undesirable and natural in foods. This system will comprise an automated silicon micro machine -based food processor, an ultra-fast thermal cycle, a DNA micro array hybridisation chamber, a laser scanner detector and a data processor. By combining developments in real-time PCR with the latest advances in nucleic acid purification technology, the instrumentation will be of significant potential to the future of rapid microbial analyses.
