Objective
The world of can coatings has been in the middle of a big storm since 1996.Public laboratories and consumer organisations pointed out excessive migration into canned foods of substances released by the coatings. In 1998, the Scientific Committee for Food considered the technical alternatives found in some companies not acceptable. Furthermore, in 99-00, research laboratories found many new, unidentified compounds migrating from coatings into canned foods. Many of these compounds seem to be reaction products formed during curing, or even in foodstuffs. Regulating the canned food safety has become a complicated issue. The proposal is to bring on the table all the scientific background allowing a new regulation. The purpose of the workshop is precisely to clarify these aspects BEFORE starting a research project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
