Communicating about food allergies - information for consumers, regulators and industry

Objective

Whilst around 1-2% of European adults have been diagnosed food allergic, perceptions are that it is common, with 1/3 of adults believing they suffer from food allergy. Such concerns and the dangers posed by allergenic foods to the severely allergenic, means provision of good quality information to the public on food allergies is imperative. Communication strategies relevant to the food allergy area will be developed to promote the provision of visible, credible sources of information, which are appropriate to the different stakeholders, including consumers , industry and regulators . These will be refined within the arena of current food allergy research. Recommendations will be implemented by developing a web platform including an electronic database on allergenic foods.
