Objective
HOSPATH aims at producing knowledge about recently discovered Toll like cell receptors (Tars) that are important for host responses to gram- positive bacteria, and produce and evaluate new reagents for the inhibition of these host responses. Interaction of bacteria with host receptors is the first step in the activation cascade resulting in elevated amounts of inflammatory mediators causing clinical manifestations of septic shock. Tars are implicated in cell activation by various types of bacteria, suggesting that inhibition through Tars may limit uncontrolled host responses to gram-positive bacteria. HOSPATH will use molecular biology- and immunological techniques to investigate the functions and distribution of Tars with particular reference to the pathogenesis of gram-positive bacteria and their products, and develop and exploit proteins , polymers and oligonucleotides to inhibit activation through Tars.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
