Differential diagnosis of infecious lung diseases

Objective

Infectious pulmonary diseases form a serious threat to human warfare. Pneumonia continues to be a major health problem despite the availability of potent ant microbial drugs. Bacterial pulmonary diseases are often caused by Streptococcus pneumonia, Mycoplasma pneumonia, Chlamydeous pneumonia, Legion Ella pneumophila, Staphylococcus aurous, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Compromised-compromised hosts, such as HIV patients, form a special target group. Diagnostic test are available for these pulmonary diseases but there is still an urgent need for more accurate and rapid diagnoses. This project will focus on developing a simplified and user-friendly test combining detection of pathogen components (nucleic acids/proteins) and host components (antibodies) with a high diagnostic reliability. In its final format the test allows differential diagnosis of infectious pulmonary diseases. The new and innovative part of the project is that the resulting differential test format will have an appreciable added reliability, as
(I) the combined pathogen and host response test results will increase the sensitivity of the method, and
(ii) the combined testing for the major differential diagnostic causes of lung disease will increase the specificity. The principle of
