Mesodermal stem cells : from basic biology to development of pre-clinical models of tissue replacement and cell therapy.

Objective

This is a research and development project, describing a new biotechnology approach to cell replacement therapy for a number of severe diseases, based on genetically modified mesoderm stem cells.
The research will cover all aspects of the problem, including:
1) isolation of stem cells from different tissues and organs,
2) study of their phenotype and basis biology,
3) design and construction of viral vectors for their genetic modification,
4) development of pre-clinical models of disease correction by genetically-modified stem cell transplantation, and
5) products and protocols for phase I/II clinical application.
The research will be carried out by a partnership of six laboratories in four different European countries, which include a start-up biotechnology company with a strategic interest in tissue engineering and gene therapy. The groups are led by top European scientists who pioneered the field and have the highest qualification.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
