Objective
Collagens and laminas have crucial roles in the extra cellular matrix. Collagens have many applications in medicine, cosmetics and commodity products. Collagens presently used for such applications are derived from animal tissues. We will develop efficient recombinant production applicable to any given collagen type, and test the efficacy of the produced human collagens in several applications. We will also develop man-made basement membranes composed of suitable combinations of collagens; laminas and growth regulators endogenously present in these therapeutically important specialized matrices, and test their use in improving the endothelialization of vascular grafts. Furthermore, we will develop recombinant production of gelatine used in numerous applications.
