Objective
The 5th Biotas Conference will be held in Darmstadt (Germany) from September 2-7, 2001, within a biannual Europe conference series on biocatalysts, biotransformation and biotechnology (usually attended by ca. 300 scientists). The scope of the conference is the gathering of European scientists from interdisciplinary areas whose main objective is the use of whole cell organisms or isolated enzymes as catalysts in the development of innovative strategies for the synthesis of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals, for an accelerated development of environmentally friendly processes in industrial chemicals production that are characterized by mild reaction conditions to limit energy consumption and waste production. Most participants to FP5 have been active promoters to this conference, which will promote and strengthen further synergies for FP5 and related European biotechnology initiatives.
