Objective
We will demonstrate the power of a concerted effort to build a functional genomics knowledge base for microarray based gene expression profiling. We established a consortium of European Arabidopsis functional genomics centres and bioinformatics partners that contribute expertise in transcription profiling. 2000 Arabidopsis samples will be analysed on the novel CATMA microarray format containing gene specific probes for all Arabidopsis genes, to build a prototype Compendium of expression profiles. The data will be statistically analysed for significance and submitted to the ArrayExpress database at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI). EBI will deliver specific CAGE ontology, and data submission pipelines. The Compendium data will be annotated and analysed for content and confirmation of gene function. The Compendium will further be maintained by EBI, and the CATMA arrays including protocols for data processing will be made publicly available.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
