Evaluating human health risk from low-dose and long-term pcb exposure

Objective

Health risk possibly resulting from long-term human exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and other persistent organ chlorines will be evaluated. Both adults and children from a polluted (as a consequence of PCB manufacture) and a background area will be examined with special respect to the blood levels of PCBs and organ chlorine pesticides, and to health disorders, especially endocrine disruptive effects (questionnaires, medical examination, serum levels of hormones, antibodies, and biomarkers). Moreover, dioxin-like compounds, PCB metabolites, heavy metals, and dioxin-like and estrogenic activity will be measured in selected samples. Neurotoxin disorders of children will be examined, as well. The results of this project will have important implications for all EU member and associate countries.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
