Objective
Pesticides used in Europe for agricultural and domestic purposes represent growing threat to human and environmental health. We propose a sensitive biosensor, based on human living stem cells, designed ad hoc to detect the potential risk for human health by chronic (low-dose) exposure to neurotoxicpesticides. The enzyme cholinesterase is the target of organophosphates andcarbamates, two major pesticides currently used in agriculture. The enzyme is involved both in the regulation of nervous system functions and in the modulation of cell-to-cell interactions during the early embryonic development and growth. Its alteration causes developmental and functional anomalies in invertebrate and vertebrate organisms. Its effects on human health and embryonic development of course were never experimentally investigated, but a strong suspect arises fromepidemioloqical studies. We will check the risk for man, by use of human stem

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
