European rice: transgenes for crop protection against fungal diseases

Objective

We propose to improve and evaluate the use of genes expressed and involved in the resist- acne to fungal attack in the control of rice blast and other fungal diseases, as major pests for rice in Europe. Selected resistance genes under inducible or constitutive promo tars will be engineered to create new rice genotypes enhanced for resistance. The oboe- active is the construction of modified cultivars protected against attacks of the pathos- genes as well as to an evaluation of the GM genotypes in the environment. Once resistance had been demonstrated, the programme aims to understanding the mechanisms of action of the new trait acquired at the level of genetics, molecular biology, physiology and path- logy, in an integrated approach. The final objective of the programme is to identify a valuable strategy in terms of crop protection of rice in Europe, associated to an assessment of the impact of GM-rice in the areas where rice is cultivated.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
