Objetivo The proposal aims at the identification development of novel products using spent mushroom compost as a substrate. At present, spent mushroom compost is used as a garden fertiliser. This is a low-added value application. Spent compost is still rich, however, in various components such as enzymes, fine chemicals, fibres, energy etc. Development of novel products or processes from spent compost will strengthen the competitivenss of the sector because of diversification. It will also contribute to environmental policy because it makes use of an agricultural waste material as raw material for novel processes.
