Development of database of forest products trade flows in global scale

Objective

World Forests, Society and Environment researchers and the European Forest Institute have spent several years developing the WFS/EFI forest products trade now database- the World's largest database of its type. Now the database will be made accessible to external users. Our objectives are to increase accessibility of database by researchers, businesses and educators in Europe. The various participants will include a data processor that will be responsible for raw data acquisition, quality control and processing, as well as design and transform the trade flow data into regional trade flow charts, and maps. A user coordinator will liase between the users, the data processor and the media designer, and develop a website based information. Also some external Services such as media designer and general adviser are needed. Our milestones and expected results arc CD-ROM1 which is under preparation at our cost, an updateable CD-ROM2 including animated and narrated trade flow charts and maps, improved access to the database via the internet and finally a practical manual.
