Precise utilisation of manures in agriculture

Objective

Accurate measurement of plant nutrient concentrations (N, P and K) in animal slurries and solid manures is needed for optimal nutrient utilization in grass and arable farming. Such improvements will also help to reduce the risks of environmental pollution due to excessive applications. However, the required technology is not yet available, although users (farmers and agricultural contractors) and manufacturers offs lorry and solid manure applicators have requested suitable nutrient sensing and control systems. Thus, the purpose of this project is to develop accurate and robust systems for on-line measurement of plant nutrients in slurries and solid manures and to combine them with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. This will greatly improve the control and registration of plant nutrients delivered during slurry and solid manure applications to land. The project will establish new collaborations between research institutes and industrial partners who until now have been working separately towards the development of the necessary systems. This will ensure rapid and efficient achievement of the project objective.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
