Objetivo
The aim is to develop novel technologies and systems, which exploit neglected resource, by creating a value-added market for the supply of cost-effective, quality raw materials to small and medium sized furniture producers and furniture component manufacturers. The objectives are to:
- Add value to short-length timber, currently perceived as low-grade;
- Reduce raw material costs and increase competitiveness within the SME dominated furniture industry;
- Develop optimal jointing and gluing techniques for the production of furniture components from short-length timber at minimal cost;
- Introduce new, profitable and sustainable management systems, which optimise the potential of rural and urban mixed species woodlands.
