Objective
The objective is to identify sustainable grazing management practices for maintaining and enhancing bio diverse grasslands. The effects of management system (targeted at production or at biodiversity) and animal breed (commercial or rustic) on botanical, structural and invertebrate biodiversity will be quantified and the socio-economic costs and benefits evaluated. Integrated investigations in countries will comprise the following tasks:
1. Compilation of a web resident European database of research relevant to the management of bio diverse grasslands.
2Comparison of animal foraging behaviour;
3. Comparison of agronomic output;
4.comparison of botanical and structural biodiversity;
5 comparison of invertebrate biodiversity;
6 socio-economic evaluations. The results will allow improved recommendations for the integrated management of bio diverse grasslands.
