Development of beyond state of the art sustainable soil substrates for application in extreme environments

Objective

The goal of the project is to develop the scientific and technical knowledge in order to manufacture innovative and sustainable soil substrates (plant substrates) with special characteristics for problem sites. The substrates will be, in particular:
1) Highly efficient in storing water;
2) Porous and of varying sizes in order to guarantee adequate ventilation of the soil;
3) Excellent fertilisers for constant and targeted fertilisation for many years; no other product on the market offers this. The soil substrates will be ideally suited to support plant growth for example for: greening problem sites such as waste tips and spoil heaps, reducing environmental impact, and for sustainable agricultural purposes under extreme conditions e.g. desert areas. Both Small and Medium Enterprise proposes will exploit the project results together.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
