Improved organic fertiliser management for high nitrogen and water use efficiency and reduced pollution in crop systems

Objectif

The main objective of the present project is to enhance the use of various organic fertiliser in farming systems and develop new management strategies and DSS components to improve the water and nitrogen use efficiency and hence to reduce the environmental pollution. The study focuses on the potato crop because the environmental problems in this high value cropping system are particularly high. The new strategies are developed from field experiments and experiments conducted in semi-controlled environments across Europe using inputs of various organic fertilisers in combination with advanced drip/ fustigation technologies and modelling with existing models Daisy and HYDRUS-2D. The proposal addresses the objectives of the FP5, QOL-S.1.1: Sustainable agriculture; Development of improved farming systems, and innovative and efficient irrigation systems to secure a high quality production and an efficient and rational use of natural resources.
