Objective
Coinciding with the Portuguese Presidency, it was decided to hold the 10th meeting of Directors of Fishery Research Organisations. The main purpose of this meeting is to continue the co-ordination of the National research programmes with the EU Fifth Framework Programme for research in the field of fisheries and aquaculture. During the meeting, problems in fisheries research will be discussed among Directors of research Institutes, Commission and Industry, in order to contribute to the development and implementation of the EU-Common Fisheries Policy.
Against this background the following topics will be discussed:
I- Review of the state of fisheries research within the EU, taking into consideration:
a- present and foreseeable situation with the biological, social and economic studies, and other related fields within DG XIV including support for data collection, mainly in terms of fisheries policy and new regulatory framework
