Positioning under magnetic resonance imaging (mri) for accurate application of high intensity focused ultrasound (hifu) in cancer treatment

Objetivo

High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy is and innovative medical technique applied to treat cancer tumours. The main interests of this technique are the capacitates to preserve organs, to perform ambulatory treatments and to reduce health costs. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides the most sensitive tool for tumour detection in many cancers and gives the ability to monitor a HIFU therapy. The association of HIFU with MRI requires an accurate positioning system in order to treat precisely the localised tumour. Moreover, the use of MRI adds constraints due to the strong magnetic field. These technical problems request ad partnership between different companies. In particular, a partner able to develop a specific motor is required. Edam techno med intends to manage a European team able to solve the technical challenges to treat cancers with HIFU under MRI. It should open new opportunities for the treatment of cancer diseases and permit to access to world - wide market.
