Enabling autonomy, participation, and well-being in old age: the home environment as a determinant for healthy ageing (ENABLE-AGE)

Objective

This interdisciplinary project will consider subjective and objective person-environment relationships as important determinants to healthy ageing, in a EU perspective. The main aim is to examine the home environment as a determinant for autonomy, participation, and well being in old age, in a longitudinal perspective. The seven project objectives focus person-environment transactions among very old adults in five different countries. A macro level update on housing policies will be performed, and integrated with the knowledge generated by a survey (N=2000) and an in-depth study (N=200), a revised and optimised standard methodology for housing issues as related to functional health will be provided, furthering the provision of evidence-based policy recommendations in order to maintain autonomy, participation, and well-being in old adults in the EU.
