Obstacles and facilitators in diagnosing and managing early dementia in eu member status (DIADEM)

Objective

The aim of the proposed project is to exchange experiences acquired in three RTD projects on early diagnosis of dementia in EU member states and to make a research proposal based on these studies. The RTD projects investigated obstacles to diagnose dementia and effectiveness of educational interventions aimed at primary care professionals. There are procedures, methodologies and techniques to diagnose early dementia and to treat or support patients and caregivers. Yet, they are not available in all EU countries and even when they are available they are often not used in clinical practice. The proposed project includes two workshops, which will develop a research proposal on obstacles and facilitators of diagnosis and management of early dementia. Evidence and experiences will be exchanged internationally on
a) obstacles and facilitators
b) methodologies, procedures and techniques to diagnose dementia and to educate GPs on dementia-related problem
c) epidemiology. Deliverables will be research proposal, review on obstacles and facilitators and report on epidemiology organisation of dementia health care, and cultural norms related to dementia.
