Development and clinical evaluation of bioreplaceable small joint prosthesis for the correction of destructed small joints in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis (JOINT SCAFFOLD)

Objective

Bio replaceable MCP-joint prosthesis is a new concept in joint surgery. Using the modern biomaterials technology, a new prosthesis has been developed by partners of the consortium to prevent the harmful effects of silicone and to provide a method, which reliably corrects the deformities, and gives a potential permanent functional result in arthroplasty. This prosthesis can only be a temporary supporting the joint until the fibrous-like tissue cushion replaces the spacer. The long-term foreign-body reactions caused by the wear debris of implant can be avoided. Some preliminary first limited clinical studies with promising results now need to be confirmed in a large-scale study in Europe. In the framework of demonstration project, performance and efficiency of the new joint scaffold will be evaluated, for finger and toe joints of elderly people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
